I remember the first time I drank a cold brew years ago; I was instantly obsessed with the smooth flavor and the immediate cool refreshment. When I finally learned that cold brews are more caffeinated than traditional coffee, I had been drinking at least one cold brew a day for weeks…no wonder I was so spacey. I have since learned that, for me, one cup of this sweet nectar is enough to keep me in caffeinated bliss for the whole day.
This cardamom rose cold brew is the ultimate sweet sip to get you through a summer in the sun. I learned the basic cold brew recipe from one of my favorite magazines, Bust. Since this brew first came into my life I have remixed it to be a little something special and cut down a bit on the sugar, now it is sheer delight. Don’t take my word for it, mix it up and taste the magic for yourself.
6 cups fresh ground coffee
5 ½ cups water
1/3 cup rose water (be sure it is food grade)
4 tablespoons brown sugar
2 tablespoons cardamom
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 teaspoon nutmeg
Mix all dry ingredients together in a large mixing bowl
Add wet ingredients let sit for five minutes then stir. Cover with a cloth and let sit at room temperature for 6 hours or over night (up to 24 hours). The longer it brews the more caffeine it will contain.
Filter out the grounds and pour the liquid into a container. I placed a small strainer over a funnel then used a ladle to transfer the liquid (a cheese cloth also works well).
Let liquid chill in fridge or serve immediately over ice.
Pour 8 ounces of coffee into a glass.
Add a splash of cold water.
Add milk of choice to taste.
Voila, an easy but delightful summer recipe! I especially love this because it allows me to prepare my coffee a few days in advance, such a lifesaver if you have busy schedule.
