I absolutely love face masks. I remember watching bad teen movies back in the ‘naughties (late 90’s early 2000’s) and it seemed like there was always a scene where a girl was rocking her face mask when her crush showed up at her house. While others may have been cringing with embarrassment and sympathizing with adolescent struggles I was wondering how to get my hands on a sick face mask. And my obsession with face masks has not been diminished over the year. Masks just seem so luxurious and girly in the most wonderful way. In all seriousness, if you’re interested in having amazing glowy skin, face masks are the way to go and these are my favorites from 2016.
As you might have guessed by its name this mask is incredibly hydrating. It goes on clear and smooth so it is comfortable to wear for a long time. I wear this mask overnight once or twice a week. It leaves my skin feeling pampered and refreshed.
Straight up, this is the best mask if you had a little too much to drink the night before. The ground coffee beans exfoliate and wake up my skin, while the intense coffee smell makes my other senses wake up as well. I like to use “Cup O’ Coffee” anytime my face need a restart. It can leave skin a little red for about 15 minutes after so you might not want to use right before heading out the door.
This is a classic mask using four simple ingredients; kaolin clay, bentonite clay, matcha, and kelp. You mix this mask in a dish with liquid then apply it to the face. I reach for “Refresh” whenever I am having more breakouts than normal and it clears my skin quickly. I have dry skin and this mask has a slight astringent and drying affect so I only use it about once a month but if you have oily, or acne prone skin this would make a great go-to. It leaves your face very red so best to use this option before bed.
I love this eco-friendly alternative to sheet masks by 100% Pure, it is made from hydro-water and cellulose which break down after the mask is done working its magic. I like both this caffeine version as well as the ginger option as both leave my skin super hydrated and soothed. In the summer I like to put them in the fridge for 20 minutes before applying for a refreshing cool down. Plus sheet masks are just downright fun!
I love pretty much everything by Lush so I had to throw in another mask. Mask of Magnanimity has been my go-to the last few weeks because its gentle exfoliating (via adzuki beans) leaves my skin feeling refreshed but not raw. It smells delightfully of peppermint which makes me awake and relaxed at the same time. And it just makes my face feel good, which is really all I can ask of a face mask anyway.
I am kinda obsessed with masks and I’m excited to discover new favorites in 2017. If you have any suggestions please let me know in the comments below. I’m wishing you all refreshed faces as we wrap up December.
Love and light,
